Rachiele Custom Hoods

Our hoods start at approximately $7000 excluding the blower and housing assembly.

Before I introduce our complete copper hoods, take a look at what I did in my kitchen...

The top portion of the hood is textured sheet rock. The bottom has a "U" shaped copper panel sandwiched between two pieces of cherry molding. Sometimes "too much" copper is just "too much". I thought this nice accent would tie in the copper sinks nicely without having a massive copper hood in the kitchen. That all being said, this option, or something similar,  will save you thousands of dollars and might just look better than an entirely copper clad hood. Oh... it only took me 10 years to finally complete my hood project. The area that is now copper was earlier painted a copper color. Can you say PROCRASTINATE?

We also make matching dishwasher panels, refrigerator panels, back splashes, and door inserts out of copper. Just ask!

Rachiele custom hoods are exceptionally high quality. Every detail is meticulously attended to. Don't mistake these for the hoods you see online or in stores. There is a vast difference. From the true hand craftsmanship of American artisans to the fine finishes applied by our patineur, everything is first class.

This is a 30" wide custom hood nearing completion at the shop. Bob is one of the most talented metal workers around. This hood was made in 4 pieces. Front, sides and a back. All the detail, that appears to be molding, was hand formed using our standard hard cold rolled 14 gauge copper. Not an easy feat. What you see in the photo is Bob getting ready to install the blower system sent to us by the customer. Once fitted perfectly, we will remove it and begin the patination process. There is an additional crown molding that will be attached to the ceiling, that slips over the hood at the top.

This  hood was designed with a ductless vent, so we oversized the crown molding at the top to allow air to escape. The hood is ready for patina. Photo to come soon!

Here she is... all finished - and going to a good home up in the mountains of Georgia. Expect a hood like this to be around 11K, plus the cost of the blower. There is a tremendous amount of hand work on this hood.

This hood is 30" wide and30" tall and about 26" deep. Most of the cost is labor, hence a larger copper hood would not be significantly more expensive.

Please click on the photos of the copper  hood for detail. The entire front, right and left sides were made of one piece of copper (not including the top molding). The three pieces were then welded together. This was all done by hand by Bob.

Lori did a fantastic job with the rustic patina. There is no doubt these copper hoods are far and above the detail and quality of copper kitchen hoods you see elsewhere. If you are looking for the very best - we can do it!

This is a preliminary video of the cladding of a wooden hood structure for a home.  The hood tapers in two directions. The radius on the corners changes from top to bottom. The wood substructure was sent in by our customer. We clad it with 14 gauge hard virgin copper with NO welding. This was all done by one person in our shop. The piece of copper was originally a flat straight piece.

Countertops made of copper

We occasionally make copper countertops. Unless the top is in a "light use" area, we recommend NOT lacquering the top. That means that the only patina can be a weathered patina. There are NO top coats what will last forever, so we suggest using Bayes copper conditioner once or twice a week to protect the patina. The patina will not recover as quickly as it will inside a sink - as a sink gets regular use, etc. That being said, we have done some very fancy patinas with lacquered finishes. We do this with the understanding that you realize the top is for light use, and the lacquer is not a lifetime product. The top may have to be touched up every 7-10 years. The process is fairly simple, but we want you to be fully aware.
