How to Fix Cracked Granite Around Sinks Without Replacing Countertops
Our patented retrofit farmhouse sink has saved homeowners thousands - installed in a single day, with no countertop replacement and no cabinet modifications.
Why Granite Countertops Crack Around Kitchen Sinks
Most homeowners are told their only option is a full countertop and backsplash replacement. Depending on the kitchen, that can run $10,000 or more. But the real question is why it cracked in the first place.
The answer is almost always the same. During fabrication, granite shops cut channels into the stone - both in front of and behind the sink cutout - and glue in iron reinforcement bars. Granite is porous. Over time, moisture reaches the iron, the bar begins to rust, and rust expands. The granite cannot flex to accommodate that expansion, so it cracks.
Once that crack starts, it does not stop on its own. It progresses until replacement becomes the only option.

The image above shows blue tape marking the crack in front of the sink — a common result of the steel support bar rusting, expanding, and cracking the granite. Believe it or not, we supplied the sink and the homeowner did all the work (skip to the next section to see the progress images.) We do not expect you to do the work yourself. We will walk you through the entire process, from finding someone to do the work for you and ensuring a fantastic outcome.
Dino patented a drop-in retrofit farm sink that installs directly into your existing countertop cutout with no cutting of the cabinetry. It solves the cracking issue for a fraction of the cost of replacing your countertops and backsplash.
The Patented Solution That Saves Thousands
Our drop-in retrofit farmhouse sink installs directly into your existing countertop cutout. No cutting into your cabinetry. No replacing your countertops or backsplash. Most projects are completed in a single day.
The design is built around a one-inch channel positioned behind a shortened apron. The sink drops into place over the existing cutout, and the cracked granite in front of and behind the sink is removed with simple cuts in the stone. If the crack extends further behind the sink, we extend the rear faucet deck past the crack line so there is no possibility of it progressing.
This was one of my first patents. As a former kitchen designer with over two decades of experience, I recognized early that this layout would eliminate a host of costly problems - and it has, for hundreds of families.

Homeowner-Installed Retrofit Farmhouse Sink - Before and After
The project below was completed entirely by the homeowner, who had never done this type of work before. Cracked granite no longer means replacing all of your countertops. Most projects are finished in a short day. We have made this happen all across the United States.
Many people assume a custom project like this is difficult to do long distance. It is not. We walk you through every step.

Custom Retrofit Farmhouse Sinks in Copper, Brass, Bronze, and 316L Stainless Steel
Retrofit farmhouse undermount sinks are custom designed for your specific situation and available in copper, brass, bronze, and 316L surgical-grade stainless steel. Every sink is built to your exact cabinet dimensions, and the apron height is matched to your adjacent drawer fronts for a clean, integrated look.
Many of our retrofit clients also choose to add a NexGen™ workstation, turning a cracked-granite problem into a full kitchen upgrade.
As shown in the video, the sink simply drops into place. If you prefer a flush fit rather than shimming the countertop, the areas where the sink rests can be routed down 1/16" to sit level with the cabinetry.
"I feel fortunate to have found Dino and Rachiele Sinks. The level of customer service, kindness, and professionalism was above and beyond. During the process, I learned so much about sinks, copper, and all the hard work that goes into each Rachiele sink. I am now a huge fan and very excited to put our new sink to good use!" - Andrew H.
