Today’s kitchen design, without question, should start with the kitchen sink choice. Now that workstation sinks are in demand, the correct choice can make the difference between joy and sorrow. It is almost always an afterthought, and it shouldn't be. The sink is, by far, the most used appliance in the kitchen—and yet it seems like ranges, ovens, and refrigerator choices always come first.

The truth is, every major kitchen task starts or ends at the sink. Washing vegetables, filling pots, rinsing dishes, draining pasta—it’s a constant hub of activity. And when that hub isn’t thoughtfully designed, daily tasks become a frustrating chore instead of a seamless experience.

Minimalist Design - Maximum Function. No Gimmicks

A poorly chosen sink can bottleneck your workflow, clutter your countertops, and limit your prep space. A well-designed workstation sink, on the other hand, can turn your sink into a true command center—consolidating prep, cooking, and cleanup into one efficient space.

So before you finalize your cabinetry, countertops, or appliances, ask yourself this: Have I chosen a sink that truly fits the way I live and cook? If not, it might be time to rethink your starting point.

Where to start.

Today’s kitchen design should begin—not end—with the sink. With workstation sinks in high demand, the right choice can mean the difference between daily joy and ongoing frustration. And yet, the sink is often an afterthought—upstaged by ranges, ovens, and refrigerators.

But here’s the truth: every major kitchen task starts or ends at the sink. Washing produce, filling pots, draining pasta, rinsing dishes—it’s the epicenter of your kitchen. If that space isn’t thoughtfully designed, even simple tasks become chores.

A poor sink choice clutters your counters and slows your workflow. A well-designed workstation sink becomes your kitchen’s command center—consolidating prep, cooking, and cleanup into one efficient zone.

So before you commit to cabinetry, countertops, or appliances, ask yourself:

Have I chosen a sink that truly fits the way I live and cook?

If not, it might be time to rethink your starting point.

What to look for.

Sometimes, it’s easier to start with what to avoid.

If a sink relies on the countertop to support a cutting board—walk away. Any liquid on that board can (and will) end up on your counter… or your floor. That’s not a workstation—it’s a liability.

Next, look closely at how the board is supported. If it rests on a flange instead of an internal ledge, water will pool at the caulk line—inviting mold, bacteria, and long-term failure.

Prioritize sinks made in the USA, Canada, or Europe. These regions tend to use higher-quality materials and construction methods. And don’t stop at the sink—review the warranty and return policy carefully, especially for accessories. Most brands cut corners there.

Quality isn’t just about how a sink looks—it’s about how it performs after years of daily use.

Function First, Always

A beautiful sink that fails in function is a design flaw, not a feature. Too many workstation sinks are designed by people who’ve never spent serious time in a kitchen. They look impressive in photos—but fall short where it matters most: daily use.

Look for a sink that’s been engineered around real-life cooking habits. Are the accessories usable, or just gimmicks? Can you comfortably prep, rinse, and clean without constantly shifting tools around? Is there enough room for a half-sheet pan, or does the sink crowd your workflow?

True workstation design consolidates motion. It reduces steps. It saves time. It clears your counters. Every element should have a reason—and that reason should be rooted in how people actually cook.

Designed by a Cook, Not a Committee

This is where most sinks fall apart: they’re designed in boardrooms, not kitchens.

At Rachiele®, we take a different approach. Every design begins with one question: How can we make daily cooking easier, faster, and more enjoyable? The answer comes from years of hands-on kitchen experience—not just by our team, but by me personally. As someone who cooks full meals almost daily, I’ve lived with—and worked around—the flaws of nearly every sink design out there.

That’s why our workstation sinks aren’t just metal boxes with accessories. They’re precision tools. Every ledge, angle, and accessory is part of a system engineered to make your kitchen flow. We don’t build for trends. We build for people who actually cook.

This is form because of function—not in spite of it.

Mass-Produced vs. Handcrafted: It Matters More Than You Think

Most sinks on the market are mass-produced—stamped out by machines, welded by robots, finished with minimal human touch. Corners are cut (literally and figuratively), materials are downgraded, and what you’re left with is a product that looks decent until it starts to fail.

At Rachiele®, every sink is handcrafted by just four artisans, using only top-tier domestic metals—316L surgical-grade stainless, pure American copper, solid bronze, and brass. These aren’t marketing terms—they’re functional choices, selected for longevity, safety, and beauty. No shortcuts. No hidden coatings. No overseas outsourcing.

You can feel the difference. You can hear it. And a decade from now, you’ll still see it.

Because when something is built with intention—and built to last—it shows.

Ergonomics: The Most Overlooked Design Element

No one talks about ergonomics when buying a sink—but they should. How tall are the users? Right-handed or left-handed? Who preps, who cleans, and how often?

The wrong sink depth or layout can lead to back pain, fatigue, and constant frustration. The right one? It vanishes into your routine—because it works with you, not against you.

We design each sink around your habits. That means ideal working height, optimized layout for dominant hand use, and workstation setups that reduce strain and increase efficiency. If two people share tasks, we design for that too. One size fits all? Never.

Because a truly custom sink should fit like a tailored suit—not like something off the rack.

If You’re Still Designing Your Kitchen…

Now is the time to make the right sink choice. Before cabinets are locked in. Before countertops are templated. Before you settle for something that just "looks good."

We’ve been helping people get this decision right since 1999. If you’d like to talk, I’d be happy to walk through what a well-designed sink could do for your space.

One conversation could save you years of regret.
