Cracked Granite Solutions
We have saved our customers thousands of dollars with our patented, simple and fast farm sink design
The above client had a crack in front of the sink and a long crack behind the sink. He was told he had no other option than to replace the granite. This was a sizable kitchen! My patented farm sink design allowed for simple cuts in the stone, removal of the false drawer heads, and the sink dropped into place without any cutting of the cabinetry. I extended the rear faucet deck to allow the stone to be cut past where the rear cracks ended so there would be no possibility of the stone cracking further. Not only did we save them the cost and time of replacing the stone and purchasing a new sink, but this project was also completed in one day, and they have a beautiful copper farm sink with our NexGen workstation option so they can prepare meals on the sink instead of on the countertop!

During the process, I learned so much about sinks, copper, and all the hard work that goes into each Rachiele sink. I am now a huge fan and very excited to put our new sink to good use! Thank you so much Dino and the team at Rachiele Sinks!" Andrew H.

What caused the granite to crack in front of or behind kitchen sinks?
Granite fabricators failed to understand that creating channels in granite for steel bar installation, both in front of and behind the sink, poses significant risks. Granite is a porous material, which means that the steel bar can easily get exposed to moisture, leading to rust. As the steel bar rusts, it expands, while the granite, unable to accommodate this expansion, is prone to cracking. Our solution eliminates this structural flaw, ensuring the integrity and longevity of your granite surfaces without compromising strength or stability. As shown in the video, the sink can simply drop in place. If you do not want to shim the countertop to account for the thickness of the metal, the areas where the sink sits can be routed down 1/16" (the thickness of the metal) to be flush with the cabinetry. My patented design allows for a very simple installation without having to cut into your existing cabinetry.
My Retrofit Farm Sink Design Was One Of My First Patents.
As a former kitchen designer, I quickly recognized that this sink layout would eliminate a host of costly problems.
In this project, the homeowner chose to replace a standard double bowl sink while updating the countertops but keeping their existing cabinetry. The concept centered on a one inch channel positioned behind a shortened apron. To achieve the clean, integrated look I wanted, the sink had to be custom built. I aligned the left to right span with the cabinet doors below and matched the apron height to the adjacent drawer fronts.
The example shown in the video illustrates this approach. In that particular case, the cabinet doors were unusually narrow, so the sink was designed to span the full width of the cabinet for a balanced, seamless appearance.
