Custom Brass and Bronze Kitchen Sinks

Brass and bronze sinks are fully custom and built one at a time. Because material availability, fabrication complexity, patina work, and layout vary significantly, fixed starting prices would be misleading.

Instead, these metals are priced based on the specific design details that matter. As a general guideline, brass represents a higher investment than copper, with bronze typically requiring additional fabrication time beyond brass. A quick phone call or short design meeting allows us to review the details and provide accurate pricing.

Bespoke Brass Kitchen Sinks Made In USA

Every Rachiele® brass sink is offered in either raw unlacquered brass or burnished unlacquered brass. Both finishes are left unsealed to age naturally, developing a living patina unique to your kitchen.

  • Wooden kitchen sink with a wood cutting board, Rachiele 3.0, light wood tones.

Raw unlacquered brass is presented in its natural satin state, free of coatings, sealants, or artificial aging. From the moment it is installed, the surface begins to respond organically to its environment, developing subtle tonal shifts through daily use rather than wear.

Some clients prefer to occasionally refresh the surface to maintain its lighter, original tone. Others allow the brass to evolve naturally, embracing the depth and character that emerges over time. Both approaches are correct. This is an honest material, chosen not for perfection, but for its ability to reflect the life of the kitchen it serves.

Durable, expressive, and inherently timeless, raw unlacquered brass is shaped as much by use as it is by craftsmanship.

  • A custom-made brass sink with a white countertop in a kitchen setting.

Unlacquered burnished brass is hand-finished using a controlled burnishing process that deepens the tone of the metal prior to installation. The surface remains completely unlacquered, allowing the brass to continue evolving naturally over time. We do, however, offer the option of a very durable topcoat for the face of the farmhouse sink.

Burnishing establishes a more uniform starting appearance with subtle warmth and depth. It does not prevent patina. It simply sets the initial tone. Clients who prefer a more composed look from day one often choose burnished brass, while raw brass allows for greater tonal variation from the outset.

We select brass with a slightly higher copper content to achieve a warmer, more balanced color. With proper use, the finish matures gradually, developing depth and character without becoming uneven.

  • A custom-made brass sink with a white countertop in a kitchen setting.

Patina develops as unlacquered metal reacts naturally to air, moisture, and everyday contact. From the moment the sink is installed, subtle tonal changes begin to appear, influenced by water chemistry, handling, and normal kitchen use.

Over time, these changes blend into a more uniform surface, with areas of frequent contact often darkening or softening first. Rather than wearing away, the metal responds by redistributing color and depth, which is why minor marks tend to diminish as the surface matures.

Patina does not follow a fixed timeline or pattern. Each sink evolves differently, reflecting how it is used and the environment in which it lives. The result is a surface that gains character gradually, becoming richer and more settled with age rather than deteriorating

Unlacquered brass is a living material that responds naturally to daily use. Routine care is simple and does not require special cleaners or polishing regimens. Regular use, rinsing, and drying are typically sufficient.

In the example shown, the apron front has been treated with our DuraClear topcoat. This clear, durable coating is applied selectively to the exterior face only, locking in the original burnished appearance while leaving the interior surfaces unlacquered to patina naturally. This option is often chosen when clients prefer the exterior to remain visually consistent over time.

Clear expectations are an important part of working with living metals. Brass will develop character through use, and care preferences vary by household. Detailed care guidance is always provided, and we are happy to review material behavior and options during a design discussion.

  • brass-custom-drop-in-sink-with-drainboards-rachiele.webp

The brass we use is a unique alloy composed of approximately 70% copper and 30% zinc. Our bronze is a higher-copper alloy, consisting of roughly 90% copper and 10% zinc. These specific compositions are selected for their durability, workability, and long-term performance in a kitchen environment.

Because both alloys contain a substantial amount of copper, the patina process and natural self-healing characteristics occur across copper, brass, and bronze. Minor surface marks tend to soften over time as the material responds to daily use.

The primary distinction is visual. Brass patina typically develops with greener undertones, while bronze matures into a deeper, richer, golden hue. Both metals evolve naturally, but their color direction and depth are distinctly different.

  • custom brass 80 inch drop in sink with drainboards each side

Shown mid-production, this six-foot custom brass drop-in sink is being handcrafted in our Florida workshop by one of our skilled artisans. The design includes a precision-machined ledge system, an oversized bowl, and an integrated handcrafted drainboard, all formed from solid brass.

This sink was ultimately burnished to a deep, dark patina at the client’s request. The burnishing process establishes a richer, more uniform tone while leaving the brass unlacquered and free to continue evolving naturally over time.

Every element of this sink was built specifically for the client, balancing traditional materials with purposeful function. The result is a piece defined not by scale alone, but by intention, longevity, and craftsmanship.

  • rs=w_900,cg_true.webp

Our brass sinks are fully custom and built one at a time. Domestic brass is available in smaller sheet sizes than stainless steel or copper, which means certain designs cannot be fabricated from a single piece of metal.

When this occurs, the sink must be assembled from multiple sections, requiring extensive MicroWelding and micro- polishing to achieve seamless joints and consistent surfaces. The amount of labor involved varies significantly based on size, configuration, and design complexity.

For this reason, fixed starting prices would be misleading. Instead, accurate pricing is established during an initial Zoom meeting, where the design, cabinet size, and functional requirements are reviewed and a clear investment range can be provided early in the process.

The Beauty of Mixed Metals in Kitchen Design

Brass Kitchen Undermount Sink With Rear Deck

This photo was taken by a former customer in 2020. She ordered the sink without burnishing and also chose a Waterstone faucet and soap dispenser in unlacquered brass. She followed up with the following email.

" I love this sink! My whole family loves this. It is a major kitchen and even life upgrade to have something like this. We live in a pretty old house and it used have a dinky, divided sink. As a frequent home cook, it used to be a constant source of irritation that none of my big pots or sheet pans would fit in the sink for cleaning. The design of the Rachiele workstation sink is fabulous. The the depth of the sink from top to bottom is perfect and ergonomic; not too shallow, and not too deep. I am a huge fan of the internal ledge, which enables me to chop my vegetables in my sink and move it directly to my compost without taking up additional counter space. I also have the dish drainer and will sometimes swap that in, when I'm watering house plants. This is a fantastic feature.

Lastly, I want to add that the aesthetic design of the sink plus the Waterstone faucet is perfect for us. We updated some kitchen hardware, and it was only after tons of searching did I find this gem of a sink in natural (unlaquered) brass. No other alternatives came close to looks or build quality. I am a huge fan of Rachiele! I have no complaints and only praise for their product design, build quality, and customer service."

Today, 7/22/24, we received another message: " We are moving. We loved our last custom Rachiele sink so much, we're coming back for another. This time our house is a farmhouse and already has a typical steel farmhouse sink that we want to replace. I continue to love brass and would like to get a cool, workhorse that is an essential element in my kitchen."

Choosing a Brass or Bronze Sink: A Quick Guide

Interior Of A Well-Used Unlacquered Bronze Sink

Over time, unlacquered bronze develops a rich, deep golden hue with warm undertones. Daily use encourages the patina to settle evenly, softening minor marks and creating a surface that feels cohesive rather than worn.

Because of its high copper content, bronze responds naturally to contact, moisture, and air. The result is a living finish that gains depth and character with use, reflecting the rhythms of the kitchen rather than resisting them.

Over time, unlacquered brass develops a layered patina with warm golden tones and subtle green undertones. Daily use encourages these hues to blend, softening minor marks and creating a surface that feels settled rather than worn.

Because of its copper-rich composition, brass responds naturally to contact, moisture, and air. The patina evolves gradually, reflecting how the sink is used and the environment around it. The result is a living finish that gains character with time, becoming more cohesive and expressive rather than deteriorating.

Custom Bronze Sinks Crafted in the U.S.A.

  • Bronze Custom Sinks, the Ultimate in Luxury

Bronze is selected for its depth, stability, and the way it matures with use. The alloy we use is copper-rich, giving bronze its warm golden tone and allowing it to develop a natural patina over time rather than remaining static.

Unlike many bronze alloys that closely resemble brass, this material carries a deeper, richer hue that holds visual weight without becoming flashy. It responds naturally to contact, moisture, and air, softening minor marks and developing character rather than showing wear.

Bronze and brass share similar care requirements, but bronze tends to age more evenly and with greater tonal depth. The result is a surface that evolves gradually, becoming more cohesive and expressive as it is used, rather than something that needs to be protected or preserved.

Bronze is chosen by clients who value materials that improve with time and feel settled, intentional, and permanent within the kitchen.

  • Burnished Bronze Drop In Sink

This custom bronze drop-in sink features our Paragon™ workstation layout, designed to support everyday prep and cleanup in a compact, efficient footprint.

Fabricated from copper-rich bronze, the interior surface develops a natural patina that deepens with use, softening marks and creating a cohesive, lived-in finish over time. This sink was custom built for a private residence in Japan, reflecting the adaptability of our designs across different kitchens, cultures, and ways of working.

  • Burnished Bronze Drop In Sink

Bronze is a copper-rich alloy that responds naturally to air, moisture, and daily contact. From the moment it is installed, the surface begins to evolve, developing tonal variation rather than remaining uniform or static.

Early changes are subtle. Light shifts in color appear where the sink is used most, gradually blending into a cohesive surface. Over time, the patina deepens, taking on warm golden and amber tones with increased depth and complexity. This process is gradual and even, shaped by how the sink is used rather than forced or artificial.

Minor scratches or marks do not remain visible. Because the patina is active and self-healing, surface disruptions soften and blend back into the surrounding finish, often within a short period of regular use. Temporary marks left by cookware or utensils will fade naturally as the surface continues to oxidize evenly.

The result is not wear, but character. A bronze sink becomes more settled and expressive with time, reflecting the rhythm of the kitchen rather than resisting it.

Each inlay is handcrafted and fully customizable, allowing you to express your personal style through timeless metals and meticulous detail.

  • Bronze Custom Corner Sink

Bronze is the most challenging material we work with. Its high copper content makes welding significantly more demanding than stainless or copper, and it requires extensive micro-welding and micro-polishing to meet our standards. Even minor design variations can dramatically increase fabrication time.

Because every bronze sink is fully custom, the true complexity of a build cannot be accurately determined until the design is finalized. Factors such as size, configuration, drain placement, integrated features, and sheet layout all influence how many welds are required and how much finishing is involved.

For this reason, fixed starting prices can be misleading. An initial Zoom consultation allows us to review your layout, discuss how the sink will be used, and design the sink properly before establishing an accurate investment based on the actual scope of work.

As a general guideline, bronze sinks typically require an investment approximately 10 to 20% higher than a comparable brass sink.

Brass Sink Torture Test: A Year of Abuse

To understand how unlacquered brass performs over time, we intentionally subjected one of our handcrafted sinks to a full year of neglect. Cutlery was left in the basin. Soap residue and mineral buildup were allowed to accumulate. It was treated the way many homeowners fear treating a brass sink.

The goal was simple. Observe how the material responds when real life happens.

After a year of heavy use and minimal care, the surface was refreshed using a dry Scotch-Brite™ pad followed by a quick rinse. The entire process took approximately seven minutes. The finish evened out naturally, restoring the sink to a clean, consistent appearance without chemicals or specialty products.

This demonstration highlights the practical advantage of unlacquered brass. The finish is not fragile, sealed, or dependent on coatings. It is active, forgiving, and easily renewed, even after prolonged use.
