Why Your Feedback Actually Changes Our Custom Sink Features

Most kitchen sink manufacturers run large assembly lines and carry warehouses full of stock inventory. If a customer points out something that could work better, that feedback might eventually reach a product team. It might get logged, reviewed, and considered for a future model year. It might take months. It might take years. Often, it never happens at all, because retooling a production line and writing off existing stock is expensive, and a single suggestion rarely justifies the cost.
We don't have that problem, because we don't have that structure. Every sink we build is custom, made to order, by hand, by four artisans who work on every piece. There's no assembly line to retool and no warehouse of finished inventory sitting between a good idea and a finished sink. When a customer or one of our own team members notices something that could work better, we can usually build it and test it within days.
Here are five custom sink features in our current lineup that exist because someone told us something made sense, and we listened.

The Culinary Dock™: One Inch of Space, Zero Wasted Cabinet Room
This design started with a customer's suggestion. Read the story behind the Culinary Dock and our other customer-inspired features. A past customer came to us to order their second sink with a simple observation: the two accessories they used most, a cutting board and a multi-use grid, took up real cabinet space when stored flat. We built a vertical slotted dock that holds both accessories upright against the sink wall, using about one inch of space inside the sink itself instead of a drawer or cabinet shelf.
It's patent pending, and it's now a standard option because one customer pointed out a storage problem most manufacturers never think to solve, because they're not designing sinks with the customer in the room.

The Perforated Utensil Cup: Solved for One Couple, Used by Nearly Everyone Since
A couple who wanted to wash, rinse, and dry chopsticks asked if we could build a small insertable stainless steel cup with holes in it, something they could set their chopsticks in after washing so they'd dry upright instead of sitting wet in a drawer. We built it as its own small perforated accessory, one that fits right alongside our drain boards and grids.
It turned out to solve a problem far beyond chopsticks. I use mine for my favorite tongs and spatula, the utensils I reach for daily that I don't want to wait on the dishwasher for. Instead of those sitting wet for days until a full dishwasher cycle runs, they dry the same day and go right back in the drawer clean. What started as a request from one couple is now one of the most consistently useful accessories we offer, and it's available as our silverware caddy.

The Detachable Drain Board: Built for One Kitchen, Now Part of How I Run My Own
A customer asked for a detachable drain board a few years ago. We built it, and it's been popular ever since, but I didn't fully understand why until I started using one myself.
I have a smaller sink and a larger sink in my own kitchen. With the detachable drain board on the smaller sink, I do all of my pots and pans there instead of in the larger sink, and my dish rack lives permanently on that drain board. It's a small change that made a real difference in how my kitchen actually works day to day, and it exists because a customer years ago said something that made sense.
Harmony™: Built in Five Weeks for a Couple Who Couldn't Share a Sink Comfortably

A couple came to us for a large single-bowl sink. Both of them cooked, and both of them cleaned up, but one was left-handed and the other was right-handed. With a standard single drain positioned in one rear corner, whichever one of them wasn't naturally suited to that drain position was going to be doing dishes at a disadvantage every single day, for as long as they owned the sink.
I brought the problem to our lead welder, who proposed something simple: instead of one drain trying to serve two very different working styles, build a single bowl with two separate drains, one positioned for a left-handed workflow, one for a right-handed workflow, each toward the back of their own side of the basin. Our foreman, who handles our CAD and engineering work, turned that idea into a buildable design within a couple of days. We had the finished sink in the customer's kitchen within five weeks of first hearing about the problem.
We later built versions for two right-handed users sharing a sink and two left-handed users sharing a sink, since the same conflict comes up any time two people cook and clean in the same kitchen. I now own a Harmony™™ sink myself, a 60-inch dual-drain design built for two right-handed users, and it's part of how my own kitchen runs.
Paragon™: A Week From Idea to Prototype, and Old Patents We No Longer Needed

One of our newer team members suggested an improvement to a step design I'd held patents on for years. My original patented system had internal steps that started at 18 inches wide at the top and narrowed down to 16 inches wide at the bottom, a real limitation once you're actually working in the sink.
She suggested a version that stayed a full 18 inches wide from top to bottom, no narrowing, no lost usable space at the base of the steps. We built the first prototype within a week of her bringing it up. The improvement was significant enough that it made three of my own older patents obsolete for our own use, and we ended up selling those patents to another sink manufacturer, since we no longer needed a step system that narrowed toward the bottom when we had one that didn't.
My own sink at home is a Paragon™, and it's also a Harmony, meaning it carries the full-width step system on one innovation and the dual-drain layout on the other, combined in a single sink I use every day.
Why This Works for Us and Can't Work the Same Way for Most Manufacturers
None of these five features started in a design meeting or a product roadmap. They started with a customer or a team member saying something that made sense, and us being small enough, and custom enough to act on it immediately. We don't have tooling costs standing between a good idea and a finished product. We don't have a warehouse of existing stock that a design change would make obsolete. We don't have a production line that takes months to reconfigure.
That's not a criticism of larger manufacturers. It's simply a structural reality of building sinks at scale with fixed tooling and standing inventory. A good idea has to clear a much higher bar to be worth the cost of implementing it, and even then, it can take years to reach a customer.
For us, a good idea just has to make sense.
Why "Good Enough" Never Feels Good Enough Once You've Had Better
When I first met my wife, I was wearing sneakers that cost about $20. I liked them. They were comfortable, I liked the way they looked, and I saw no reason to spend more. She disagreed and eventually talked me into buying a much more expensive pair.
I was wrong. What I thought was comfortable wasn't close to how comfortable a better pair actually felt, and that's a lesson that's stuck with me for over twenty years.
I hear a version of this from almost every customer replacing a sink with something similar to what they already have. One of our reviews puts it better than I can: "I never thought I would be a fan of a single-compartment sink, now I will never go back." That's the pattern. Customers are happy with what they have, right up until they actually use ours, and then they can't imagine going back.
